News reports say there have been violent clashes between fringe - TopicsExpress

News reports say there have been violent clashes between fringe political groups in several southeastern Turkish cities, especially in Diyarbakır. A number of other Turkish cities have seen mostly non-violent demonstrations with occasional violent incidents. The demonstrations and clashes are apparently between groups that support or oppose the governments policies toward the Syrian conflict. Some want Turkey to give more support to, and defend, Syrian Kurds. There has also been an incident in which a group occupied the Netherlands parliament in The Hague, protesting policies toward Syrian Kurds. Incidents in places like Ankara and Istanbul have not been in touristic areas, have been limited, and met by forceful police response. To me, none of them look as bad as the recent unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, USA; and just as I would not visit Ferguson now, but I would visit neighboring St Louis, I am not changing my plans to visit Istanbul next week. Ill follow news reports, stay abreast of developments, and avoid any protests, planned or spontaneous.
