Next date for your diary is Sunday 27th April 1.45pm – 4pm We are hosting this year’s East Devon Scout District St George’s Day Parade and Service. St George is the Patron Saint of Scouting. Lord Baden Powell chose St George because of his many admirable qualities including his bravery, courage and willingness to stand up for justice. The service will help our youngsters to think about these qualities and how they too can be brave. We will be joined by Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from the 9 other Groups in East Devon. Please can you support your youngster to come along (in smart uniform)? You are also welcome to join the parade along with your family and friends. If there is room you may also be able to join us in church for the service – we will have to play this by ear depending on how many youngsters arrive from the other Groups! This will also be a chance to meet the new Rector of Sidmouth – Philip Bourne. Although he’s only been in post for a couple of weeks he has been very enthusiastic about hosting the event and is a keen supporter of young people’s activities. Both his children have been members of the Scouting movement. So come along and say hello! Programme: 1.45pm Gather in Manor Road car park – opposite Jacob’s ladder/Connaught Gardens 2.15pm March from the car park to the Parish Church 3pm Service 3.45pm March back to the Car park 4 – 4.30pm Collect your youngsters There will be free drinks in the car park after the service. Help needed: 1. We will need some help to put out chairs in the church around lunchtime and put them away after the service and to help ‘marshal’ the parade. If you are able to volunteer to help please contact Gareth Hughes 01395 515552 2. We have also been struggling to find a marching band – all the obvious choices can’t help. Does anyone know of any musicians, especially drummers, who could walk and play on the march? Thanks Nancy 07767 688240
