Next up in our series of band member influences is John Bouris. Like all musicians I have been influenced by every bit of music I have heard, including singing in the Lutheran church choir as a kid. But one genre that stands out in my ear training is progressive rock. In my opinion the high water mark for progressive rock was the band Gentle Giant. Their work was typified by very complex, highly composed music that was certainly not very accessible. Listening to and learning this music (in my head) has tuned my ear like little else has and has given me untold pleasure over the years. A friend and fellow fan compared Gentle Giants music to marzipan, it is very rich and must be eaten slowly in small bites to be fully enjoyed. This video is from a live BBC session recorded in 1978 playing On Reflection which was from the studio album Free Hand from 1975. To say that I was blown away when they started their live show with this tune is a major understatement. I hope you enjoy it. https://youtube/watch?v=_pryVmeklmQ
