Next week is the Oxon Mammal Groups inaugural lecture, and what a great lecture it will be! More details about the talk and how to book a place/join the group, in Merryl Parle-Gellings words: We are delighted to announce our inaugural lecture, the first in a series of six, taking place at the Natural History Museum (Oxford) at 7pm on Monday 13th October. We could not have picked a more timely topic either - the natural history writer Patrick Barkham will be talking on Badgers and people: A thousand years of love and hate. With the badger in the news once again with the second year of the governments controversial cull, Patricks talk will take us through the problematic history of humans and badgers from Anglo-Saxon hunting to bovine TB today. Why are we always in conflict with our largest surviving carnivorous mammal? Why do we feel so sentimental about this great survivor? This is expected to be a very popular event so we do recommend booking - please email [email protected] to confirm your place. For members of Oxon Mammal Group the talk series is free, for non-members just £3 to be paid on the door (or join OxMG on the night for only £5/yr and enjoy some of our other events too). Patrick is natural history writer for The Guardian and the author of The Butterfly Isles and Badgerlands - the Twilight World of Britains Most Enigmatic Animal. See you there!
