Nice 7 mile stroll through town tonight. Week #2 of rebuilding my marathon engine. Marathon training is much different then ultra training. My pace and most speed work goes out the window when training for an ultra. Its all about getting on the trails and building the overall endurance. Marathon training for me is all about running the correct paces for each workout and building speed over the course of a schedule. My new marathon schedule looks like a Harvard math exam with all of the different types of workouts. You might think ultra training is longer and harder. Nope! I actually think marathon training is harder when you are trying to PR a race. You need to work extremely hard to find that pace that you can sustain for 26.2 miles without blowing up late in the race. Both challenging and fun.
