Nice article in Mens Journal (except it inaccurately states that infectious disease specialist Dr. Krause was first to discover Borrelia miyamotoi in the United States last summer. The organism was discovered in North America years before that, but not by Krause.) In 2009, Borrelia miyamotoi was also identified in wild turkeys in Tennessee. Lone star ticks were removed from the birds. Heres the report: bioone.org/doi/abs/10.1603/me10075?journalCode=ment The organism has been found on the west coast, as well. The disease may be affecting people all over the USA. (As an aside: Remember, just because the bulk of the research funding has been awarded to those investigating ticks and tick-borne illnesses in the northeastern USA (and theyre reporting on whats going on in their own backyards), this doesnt prove a thing about what is or isnt occurring elsewhere. Many of these diseases may be highly prevalent in humans in other regions. Nobody knows... the research hasnt been done. Arent you growing a little tired of some researchers jumping to conclusions and spreading their assumptions as if they are fact ...unproven data such as that these diseases are predominantly only in one area... when nobody even knows yet? Thats just not science.) Now, back to the article, already in progress...
