Nice little coffee shop in Grass Valley called Carolines. They do - TopicsExpress

Nice little coffee shop in Grass Valley called Carolines. They do their own roast. Easily as good as Starbucks -- if you like that. MK met me there and bought me a slice of lemon poppy seed cake. Bought -- not brought. When we got back to the hotel I wanted a bottle of water and was going to get one from the Sprinter when she showed up with one she bought at the hotel store. Again -- bought --sic. Two presents in one morning is not unusual on the road. The silent I got this is the lingua franca for Here is a gift from me to you just because --- conveyed only with an off-hand wave. Thanx is all the closure it needs. Clear sweet moments. Little gifts like that are exchanged all the time by traveling bands. Usually happens standing in line at a cashier somewhere -- or just picking up a check for lunch -- but it can happen anywhere, anytime.. We are off to San Francisco to play Great American Music Hall tonight. I love the SF crowds -- not to generalize -- but they live close physically and mentally to my home. I feel I can understand and be understood here. I dont write songs from experience but from observation. There was no Shelly or Joanne or Mary Mary -- although there were actual women who inspired them. I have found a different depth in writing from observation than experience. When the observed story gets told it is less self-centered and has a broader view IMO. Watching others I pick up their thoughts, and tiny actions, and subtle intents that are no longer noticed by the observee. Then when the story is told it sparks compassion and shared insight. The distance of the observed moment sets the depth of field and tells the tale. So went the coffee observations this morning. The living gifts. Three more dates, then home for a quick turnaround, and off again for Monkees concerts. Ill be seeing you.
