Nicholas Kristof 2 hrs · This is heartbreaking. Two great AP journalists in Afghanistan were shot today. Anja Niedringhaus, a Pulitzer Prize winning photographer, was killed instantly. Kathy Gannon was wounded and is said to be stable. Both were great journalists on a difficult story and hugely empathetic to the Afghan people--and yet were shot by an Afghan policeman who apparently resented them as Westerners and women. My thoughts are with the whole global AP family, and Im so admiring of all those reporters and photographers in conflict zones, like Anja and Kathy, who take such risks to keep us informed.
