Nick Loebner tagged me to do this, so... I am an avid reader and frankly finding 10 books that I could single out as having had a lasting impact is impossible. So Ive randomely listed these 10 with apologies to Philip Pulman, Jane Austen, Plato (dunno his first name. Colin?), Jonathan Swift, C.S. Lewis, Isaac Asimov, Kate Mosse and several other authors who should be there. This Thing of Darkness (Harry Thompson) Lord of the Rings (JRR Tolkien) The Time Machine (H.G. Wells) Flicker (Theodore Roszak) The Wasp Factory (Iain Banks) The Elegant Universe (Brian Greene) Frankenstein (Mary Shelley) Wolf Hall (Hilary Mantel) The Big Nowhere (James Ellroy) Cloud Atlas (David Mitchell) In terms of who to tag? Well, feel free to ignore but I would be interested in the choices of Dave Banjo, Ian Shaw, and anyone else who wants to do it. Ive seen other peoples lists and either made a note or face palmed at my forgetfulness.
