Nigeen Tourism Trade Association formed Srinagar, Sep 29: Nigeen Tourism Trade Association (NTTA) was today formed with an aim to safeguard and preserve Nigeen Lake. On the occasion, Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo was elected as chairman of the association. Ghulam Muhammad as vice- chairman, Muhammad Ramzan Badyari and Muhammad Rafiq as General Secretary and Treasurer respectively. The function was attended by the houseboat owners, hoteliers, shikarawalas and traders of the Nigeen area who assured full support and cooperation to the newly formed association. “People of the area derive their business from Nigeen Lake and it should be our utmost priority to keep the lake clean. We don’t want this lake to be second Brari Nambal,” Wangnoo said. He said that they will work with Lakes and Waterways Development Authority to keep the lake clean and provide all the help in doing so. “We want to appeal LAWDA authorities not to construct jetties in the lake as it defaces the natural beauty,” he said. NTTA on the occasion decided that they will take up the issue of loud music being played at Nigeen club with the concerned authorities which according to them disturbs tourists staying in the houseboats. “ Nigeen club is not marriage hall where marriage functions will be organized and people will play loud music throughout the night, we won’t allow such activities,” Wangnoo said. Wangnoo on the occasion hailed District Development Commissioner, Farooq Ahmad Shah for his efforts and Tourism department for promoting the Nigeen Lake. Vice- Chairman, NTTA, Ghulam Muhammad appealed Srinagar Municipal Corporation to maintain proper sanitation outside the club especially after functions are held there.
