Niger State Shari’ah Commission Partners Police for Effective Discharge of its Responsibilities. Niger State Shari’ah Commission says it is ready to partner with the Police to ensure smooth operation of its activities in the state. The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Barrister Mohammed Awal Bida stated this when he paid a courtesy call on the state Police Commissioner, Mrs. Desiree Desire Nserem in her office. Barrister Mohammed Awal Bida stated that the Commission was seeking synergy with the police to enable it discharge its responsibilities effectively. He disclosed that one of the responsibilities of the commission was to ensure peaceful atmosphere in the state between the Muslims and Christians. The Executive Secretary said Shari’ah Commission was established in 2006 with the sole aim of propagating the entrenchment of Shari’ah in the state. Barrister Awal Bida had earlier informed the Commissioner of Police of the Hisba Group who were re-elected from various Islamic groups to maintain mutual understanding between them. He added that they were uniformed men used in enforcing laws whenever the commission was on tour to local government areas for the purpose of enlightenment alongside Da’awah group. In her response, the State Police Commissioner thanked them for the visit pointing out that peace was everybody’s business and urged the Shari’ah Commission to synergize with the Police for effective understanding and policing. Meanwhile, the Commission has commenced the training of intending pilgrims for the 2013 Hajj operation and would continue until the departure of intending pilgrims to the Holy Land.
