Nigeria: Shekau Dismisses Ceasefire Claim in New Video By Hamza Idris Maiduguri — Hopes for the release of the 219 girls abducted from a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State, were dashed yesterday after Abubakar Shekau, leader of the outlawed Jamaatu Ahlis Sunnah Liddaawati Wall Jihad, also known as Boko Haram, said in a new video clip that they have all been married off. Shekau also dismissed claims by the federal government that the group had agreed a truce, stressing that even the schoolgirls who initially refused to accept Islam have now had a change of mind. Anybody who says plans are underway for the release of the girls is just daydreaming. They would not be returned, he said in the video. Who agreed to a ceasefire? You are not serious, Shekau said, insisting that his continuous territorial conquests ensure he will give up in his quest. He called the name of the purported secretary-general of the group who has been speaking lately and disowned him. The so-called Danladi Ahmadu is not in any way related to us. We dont know him and we have nothing to do with him. He is an infidel like you. I would behead him as soon as I set my eyes on him, Shekau said. The Boko Haram leader said the said Ahmadu was commissioned by agents of government to confuse the people. There is no negotiation between us on one hand, the so-called Nigerian government and its counterpart, Chad. We have nothing to do with them, he said. Shekau also insisted that he is still alive, hale and hearty, contrary to claims by Nigerian security forces and Chad that he was killed in battle. The media has been awash recently with news of the imminent release of the Chibok schoolgirls as part of the ceasefire agreement. Since the ceasefire was announced last month, many towns and villages have been sacked by the sect, especially in Adamawa and Borno states. For now, places like Gwoza, Bama, Dikwa, Mafa, Gamboru Ngala, Marte, all in Borno State are under the firm grip of the sect. The last town that fell to the sect was Mubi, the second largest town in Adamawa State, also the hometown of the Chief of Defence Staff.
