Nigerian Adu, known under a better-known name, wrote this lyric to a song composed in collaboration with English Matthewman and Hales. Apparently, she met a guy in a bar, towards the end of the 1980s, who told her his difficult story. The inference is that he was a mercenary who now felt remorse and shame for some (possibly many) things he had done (more accurately: committed) in his life. That feeling of remorse. Of shame. Of guilt. Of lack of moral courage (cowardice). Of self-deceit. Of lies. Of stupidity. Of dishonesty. Of frustration. Of betrayal. These have been some of the most loyal and constant companions in my life. It is not always easy for me to be honest with myself. But sometimes necessary. Its like a tattoo you keep hidden from the gaze of others. Like the scar of age Written all over my face War is still raging inside of me I still feel the chill As I reveal my shame to you https://youtube/watch?v=nwOHxHrwM1U&feature=kp
