Nigerians Must Rise Up Against Their Oppressors In Non-Violent Protests And Change Their Country - Lets Paint a Better Nigeria Nigerians have the country they deserve because they are still waiting for government to transform Nigeria. This is not going to happen. For 54 years they waited for one government after another to change Nigeria. They became slaves to corrupt politicians and mad military officers that seized power by force because they are still hoping on government to change Nigeria. This has led them to having Goodluck Jonathan promising transformation and giving them poverty, corruption, death and destruction on a daily basis. Yet, another election year is approaching and Nigerians have gone back to the same error of building their hopes on politicians of all shades and grades. Everybody is rushing to get something for their stomach - temporary free stuff! I say to those in the rat race and mad rush to get free stuff - get it now and pay later with your life, your childrens life and your grand childrens life! Just as your parents did and die in poverty, you also shall continue to work and get little for your work because you have refused to think and you have given your life to fear. The fear of torture, the fear of pain, the fear of death - but what is your life worth today as you allow your oppressors to lie you low? What is the worth of your jobless, uneducated, hungry and poor children that watch you serve your oppressors, sing and dance for them for abusing you with impunity? In the history of mankind, real change, revolutionary change, enduring change always come from the grassroots - the common people with conscience who would break the law (bad laws) with courage and risk their lives to confront their oppressors; not with bombs and AK-47; not with suicide bombers, but with non-violence, peaceful protests, civil disobedience that will prove to the oppressors that true power belongs to the people. I speak for Nigerians who are languishing in abject poverty and whose hopes have been smashed and destroyed by corrupt, power mongers, crazy politicians and their collaborators who no longer give a damn about the heartbreaking conditions that several millions of Nigerians are living. I speak for you men and women of conscience who still want to do something about the sad history that is making in Nigeria as it moves close to the imminent and impending breakdown of law and order that eventually would lead to genocide of unprecedented degree ever witnessed in Africa but which could be averted if only you face your fears now and rise up against your oppressors instead of pretending that a new government would be better without you standing for the right things you hope for everyday like most societies that have overcome oppression, subjugation, discrimination and hate. The initiative to transform Nigerians should be taken by Nigerians not Jonathan or other lying and self-centered politicians. The initiative to stop corruption must be ours not theirs. The initiative to make Nigeria a better country that would lead Africa must be ours. Successive governments have failed us. We are not getting better people, we are getting the worse people. Even those doing better have no incentive to continue because Nigerians dont appreciate them or honor them as they do their oppressors. We must stop this madness! Enough is enough! Nigerians everywhere, listen to me attentively. We have to give sufficient thought to the cultural revolution that must happen among us first and be ready to force government, any government now and in the future to manage the countrys affairs differently. The real transformation cannot start with government. Not with the historical moral decay, endemic corruption and evil greed that has eaten deep into the hearts and minds of political leaders with very few exceptions. Perhaps it may be right to say that none is doing good! If we want a better Nigeria, if we want a good country for ourselves and even a better one for our children and grand children, we must wake up now, look fear in the face and stand up; join men and women of courage, dignity, conscience, purpose and righteous anger and match on the streets of Lagos, to Benin; Abeokuta to Ibadan, Kano to Kaduna, Jos to Abuja, Onitsha to Port Harcourt; every street corner of Nigeria must be occupied. We must demand change now. We must continue to match daily for many months, even many years! We must protest against injustice, oppression, lack of liberty and freedom, terrorism, corruption, impunity, bad governance, joblessness, militarization of our community, poverty, illicit personal enrichment by public officials and politicians in power. We must force our leaders to do the right thing or face the consequence. The protest must be consistent and enduring. It must continue to be peaceful and non-violent, but, it must be purposeful. We must believe that the destiny of Nigeria is the hands of every Nigerian. We must rise up together to build a better nation. It can done because people of other countries have done it in the past and succeeded. We will succeed if we dont faint. We must confront our oppressors wherever they are irrespective of political ideology, religion, ethnicity, social status or tribe. We must force our leaders to be accountable, responsible, ready to serve diligently and with honor. We must support those that ready to change and flush out the bad ones. Power belongs to the people of Nigeria, not Jonathan or PDP, APC, any other political party or any terrorist group like Boko Haram or MEND. We must demand that those sponsoring Boko Haram must be arrested and prosecuted in the court of law. If nothing is done, then, we, the people must be ready to force them out of the country. We must stop Boko Haram and destroy their match to destroy Nigeria and make the rest of us live in daily fear of suicide bombers. Our children must have confidence that they can go to school and come back safe. We must not allow any group, no matter how evil and heavily armed they are to subdue the country. No, not on our watch! Nigeria needs a profound transformation that goes beyond building modern infrastructure for business and urban cities. Nigeria needs to do something radical to change the lives of 70 percent of her citizens living in abject poverty! We cannot continue to watch millions of Nigeria live from cradle to the grave in poverty while a few lavish several billions of the money they did not work for on private jets, designer houses and birthday parties. If we help the poor we are helping ourselves. The best way to help them is to stand with them and force the oppressors to give Nigerians a fair shake. This country belongs to all of us; why must majority of the citizens continue to suffer lack while a few squanders the wealth of the nation? The inequalities in our society is disheartening and sickening! We must not think that those who are in government, who are part of the problem, who are gainers of this social problem to do something positive to change it. They are enjoying power and enriching themselves recklessly with money that belongs to all Nigerians. Why should we hope that they would change and suddenly become their own enemy? Why would they want to change systems that is benefiting them and their children? It is foolish to expect them to stand with Nigerians to change the systems that is rewarding them greatly. I say to you Nigerians that you can change this. Dont wait for another good government that will never come until you create one - the government that you make happen because you now recognize that you have power. The power that no police brutality or tanks, or suicide bomber, or terrorist with AK-47 or the faceless DSS can take away from you. God will be with you if you exercise the liberty and power that he gives you to resist your oppressors, to stand firm when they shoot at you. To say No more corruption with impunity. You and I know that Nigeria is a lawless country because the government is lawless. Nigerian government has been lawless for many decades, but this can change. Together we can change this and make our government to be responsible and accountable. You and I can build a new Nigerian society by starting a revolutionary movement that is built from the grassroots for change because we have conscience. A people with moral conscience can never be stopped! We must earn our freedom. We must stop begging because we will not be in control if it is given to us like alms. We can make radical change happen it only 10 percent of us can stand up for the rest of us. The rest will surely join us when they start to see real change happen. We must believe that change can happen if we are ready to fight for the right things. Nigerians, will you stand with me? Are you ready to stand with me? I am making this call because I want us to rise together as one people! The picture you are to paint is Nigeria, so take up your moral brush Use your imagination and sharp visual Paint Nigeria in the brightest form you can. Believe in the vision of a great country with unfolding beauty Do not give up hope for freedom, equality, justice and freedom Please dont deliberately paint a smaller Nigeria Dont postpone this assignment till tomorrow Dont waste time pilling up materials, start as soon as you hear the call Follow guidelines but, do not fail to contribute your ideas Make room for ideals, values, duty, responsibility and progress Remember that we have the task to unit the tribes with honor; With dignity, with retention of the national ideals and With great serviceableness to all ethnic Nigerians Please work together with other Nigerians daily Visualize the future of Nigeria with developed villages Where fathers, mothers and children live in beautiful environments Where children get quality and good education Mothers see their children grow healthy and strong Fathers work with dignity, confidence and trust in their employers Paint Nigeria where businesses flourish and anyone can Grow to their full potentials no matter where they come from Remember to work on unity and mutual respect for one another Paint Nigeria where public servants do their work diligently Where leaders lead by example and are pacesetters of honesty, integrity and self-discipline Let us continue to work together everyday no matter how difficult it is Please dont take time off for merry-making; dont shrink your life to surface pleasures or get sidetracked by demoralizing diversions Or the Nigeria you are painting will be an ugly one The call will soon be made; please listen for it The time for action is now!
