Nigerias military have acquired the location of the schoolgirls abducted in April, but could not rescue them by force for fear of civilian casualty. On April 14, over 200 girls were abducted from a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State in eastern Nigeria by military insurgents, which has drawn worldwide attention. The Boko Harum sect later claimed responsibility for the kidnapping, saying they will only release the girls on condition that the government releases its members in prison. While the Nigerian government and the society are trying to get the girls freed, the Boko Haram sect has continued deadly attacks.
