Night Sight!..........did you know at night you have a blind spot? If you look directly at an object at night it will disappear due to pure f@&$ing magic! Actually the reason is cuz you have Cones and Rods in your eyeballs. Rods are used for night and cones are for day! In the center of your eye you only have cones :( which means you cant see crap with that blind spot! But never fear, I got u covered with some good old techniques to move through near zero illumination on zday! Scanning- simple, obvious, keep those eyes moving! You probably do this without realizing at night! But if something catches your attention you probably stare at it and it goes bye bye. Just remember to keep those eyes moving!!! Off center viewing....try this out, take a ball out tonight under near zero illum conditions and place it a few feet from you ob the ground. Stare right at it. PFM it disappears. Now look a few inches or a foot to the side of it. BAM! Your Chris Angel! It reappears! Could always use a flashlight! But here is your warning. When exposed to light you LOSE your night vision. Say your batteries die, light breaks, etc. depending on the exposure to the light you can take up to 45 mins or longer o fully adapt! NVGs/NVDs night vision goggles. Awesome to an extent. You cant take goggles into zero illum and hope to see everything. NVGs are only as good as the surrounding light entering them. On a good night using goggles, you can see your night shadow on the ground! On a bad day, you cant see shit on the ground which leads me into this. DEPTH PERCEPTION is jacked up! God know how many time Ive landed in the desert to see my infantry brow wearing goggles, they run to the helicopter and trip, ALOT! Once I landed in the desert to walk to my sister a/c that was down for mechanical issues. It is hard as hell for a pilot with no real heavy gear to walk a few hundred feet. Add weight and gear to screw up your center of gravity and just the act of walking sucks. Another issue, many have a 40-45 degree field of view, so you see a small picture, scanning can help bu unless youve been training for awhile on it you may be screwing yourselves over by wearing them while on the move. Note, it takes less time to readapt to natural night vision rods if your device breaks. 5 mins minimum,.. Well now that youve read this you now own the night on zday! ----- DEAD AIR
