Nine months ago my second lease on life began. Sure I snapped my leg like a twig and the ice played twister with my ankle in the cruelest manner. Could have been my head that cracked in two on the ice that day. But in the days after the recovery, physical therapy allowed me a new perspective on what truely is important and the simplest daily activities to be thankful for. I remember my lovely wife Lil taking several days off work to help me adjust and insure I didnt wander off into the forest preserve with best buddy Cooper. Learning to walk again, shower (UGH! amazing how deadly our shower seemed), not to mention dressing myself alone took on a whole new meaning. Yes the simple daily tasks I took for granted, I hoped to master again. And with the undying love and support of our kids and my wife and especially my dear friends Len, Effie, Pam and Jack I couldnt fail. Their support and lending ear with never be forgotten. With this weeks freeze my ankle felt like the Tinmans armor as the five inch plate in my leg adjusts to the weathers every shift humbling me and reminding me NOT to get too complacent. Oh, how precious life and family are.
