NjNc Entertainments This Day In HIP-HOP History: Feb 3rd February 3rd – WC was born William Loshawn Calhoun Jr. in Houston, Texas, on this day in 1970. After moving to South Central Los Angeles, California with his family at an early age, WC formed the group Low Profile with DJ Aladdin. The duo released the single “Hip Hop I Crave” on Nu School Records in 1987. They then appeared on the compilation “Rhyme Syndicate Comin’ Through” on Ice-T’s Rhyme Syndicate Records. Low Profile then released their one and only album “We’re In This Together” on Priority Records in 1989. “We’re In This Together” contained the singles “Funky Song” and “Pay Ya Dues”. The album was produced entirely by DJ Aladdin. When the two went their separate ways, soon after, Aladdin began working with Ice-T as his DJ and WC formed the group WC And The Maad Circle, which also consisted of his younger brother Crazy Toones, producer Sir Jinx and future solo superstar Coolio. WC And The Madd Circle released their debut album “Ain’t A Damn Thang Changed”, on Priority in 1991, which spawned the hit single “Dress Code”. They released their second, and last album together, in 1995 called “Curb Servin’” on PayDay Records. “Curb Servin’” contained the singles “The One” and “West Up”, featuring Ice Cube and Mack Ten. WC would again collaborate with Cube and Ten on the latter’s Self Entitled debut album released in 1995 on the track “Westside Slaugterhouse”. In 1996, WC would hook up with this trio yet again and form the West Coast super-group Westside Connection, who released their debut album that same year called “Bow Down” on Cube’s Lench Mob Records. The album would go platinum and produced the smash hits “Gangstas Make The World Go Round” and the classic title track. The super-group’s music would then be featured in films like “Friday After Next”, “West Coast Bad Boyz II” and “Thicker Than Water”. Westside Connection released their second, and last album together as a group, called “Terrorist Threats” on Mack Ten’s Hoo Bangin’ Records in 2003. The album would contain the single “Gangsta Nation”. WC has also released four solo albums to date 1998’s “The Shadiest One”, 2002’s “Ghetto Heisman”, 2007’s “Guilty By Affiliation” and 2011’s “Revenge Of The Barracuda”. In 2013, WC and Daz Dillinger of Tha Dogg Pound released the collaborative album “West Coast Gangsta”. WC has also appeared in the films “Set It Off”, “Friday”, “Thicker Than Water”, and several others. In 2000, WC toured alongside Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Nate Dogg, and several others as part of the North American “Up In Smoke Tour”. Over the years WC has also collaborated with the likes of Necro, Big Dave, Game, L.O.C. and Vicky Chand, just to name a mere few.
