No 4 flight A squadron 1 RT wing RAF Padgate August 1946, Padgate is a suburb of Warrington, Cheshire, England. RAF Padgate will be well-remembered by thousands of young men who were selected for RAF national service where they received their first taste of military discipline, ill-fitting uniforms and a severe haircut. The little lad standing behind the WO aircrew seated, centre picture is 4577 K R (Ken) Leach from Stubbington. I knew Kens Daughter better than I knew him, but now I wish I had stayed in touch. Over the last few weeks I have been introduced to Kens life, he worked for Folland aircraft famous for the gnat aircraft, his passion was books anything to do with planes, I am lucky enough to have borrowed some of them. What is not known is the book that ken wrote, entitled lifetime memories of an ex observer he never tried to get it published, although I believe a copy is held at the royal Observer corps museum. Another book written solely for the family is called The Leach family story (warts and all) although I wont be reproducing any of the stories, there are certainly some fabulous pictures that Jan Dean has said I could use. Sadly Ken passed away on 1st June 2007, such a shame as I had a lot of questions to ask. What I failed to mention is in the top left hand corner 2nd row down second lad in is Bob Monkhouse the entertainer...
