No Favoritism “Then Peter began to speak: I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right.” – Acts 10:34-35 In a 1957 interview, Billy Graham commended Martin Luther King for providing an example of Christian love as a means of confronting Americas race problem. Both men were evangelical ministers who opposed racism and segregation. Through the years, the two men teamed up in their ministries. In May 1957, Dr. Graham opened his summer-long New York Crusade. As part of this crusade, Graham preached from the steps of Sandy Rays Cornerstone Baptist Church in July, calling for anti-segregation legislation. Dr. Graham later invited Dr. King to participate in the New York Crusade, and on 18 July 1957, Dr. King joined him on the platform at Madison Square Garden. Dr. King led the congregation in a prayer, calling for a warless world and for a brotherhood that transcends race or color. Dr. King praised Dr. Grahams commitment to hold non-segregated revivals, commenting, You have courageously brought the Christian gospel to bear on the question of race. In the summer of 1960, the two men traveled together to the Tenth Baptist World Congress of the Baptist World Alliance. Dr. Graham held integrated crusades in Birmingham, Alabama, on Easter 1964 in the aftermath of the bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, and toured Alabama again in the wake of the violence that accompanied the first Selma to Montgomery march in 1965. Following Martins assassination in 1968, Billy mourned that America had lost a social leader and a prophet. The Lord has created diversity and we are not to show prejudice to anyone. Today in prayer, thank Jesus that He does not show favoritism and loves everyone. “Never try to reason the prejudice out of a man. It was not reasoned into him and cannot be reasoned out.” – Sidney Smith God’s Word: “Now let the fear of the LORD be upon you. Judge carefully, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.” – 2 Chronicles 19:7
