No HOPE…………... Did you hear Marys son, Rob, died by suicide It only just happened on Friday past He seemed so full of life and happy When i saw him at the mall last Rob had just turned 18 last month Accepted to university for the the fall So excited to study human psychology On scholarship for his favourite sport, football His Mom knew he had been struggling Difficulty sleeping and getting out of bed But she thought Rob was getting better Only to walk into his room and find him dead A tragic young life had been lost The demons in his head had won out Hope had been pushed out of the way And death totally consumed him, no doubt Mary talked to some of his closest friends Trying to understand the mind of her son They had noticed melancholy in his eyes recently Even when he was out laughing and having fun Rob’s oldest and dearest friend, Annie Told Mary, through heartbroken tears Rob had always been there by her side Supporting her while she dealt with her fears After talking to his high school teachers Rob had always been a high achieving student They had noticed he was lost in his thoughts lately But still a caring, helpful and mannerly gent The funeral home was filled to capacity Family and friends from community, church and school Rob was so loved but was too ill to realize it He gave to others, but mental illness is selfish and cruel Rev. Susan shared meaningful memories of Rob’s life She emphasized the importance of human connection Susan prayed that we would find hope and peace in our lives For we are all worthy of love, acceptance and attention We sang songs that lifted our spirits With visions of making this world a better place Pushing through our tears to raise our voices United with aspiration and faith for the human race Many of us have all consuming issues to deal with But we may keep them buried deep inside Feelings of guilt, embarrassment or low self esteem Sometimes, it is so overwhelming, we just hide Suicide HAS to be talked about it is a topic that will not go away Everyone needs friends and family To care and listen to what you say When you ask ‘How are you doing? Mean it and stay around for the reply We all need to know that we matter in this world Makes a difference in whether we sink or fly If you are having trouble finding any hope And you can’t find purpose to continue on Please reach out to someone you trust Let her help you develop ideas to act upon Seeing a doctor or therapist can make a difference They have studied and know how to help you Mental Illness can attack your sense of reality Re-wire your brain with their guidance, start anew Please don’t let go of HOPE……….
