No Interview! Todays Pilot mentions in an article that the Naro will NOT be showing The Interview as many independent theaters around the country have decided to do, since the major chains have declined to show it (for now). In case youre wondering why were not asking SONY to let us have the film, heres why: Our business is showing high-quality independent, international, classic and documentary films. The Interview does not fall into any of those categories. As a single-screen theater, we would also have to cancel long-standing commitments to run films like The Imitation Game, one of this years most critically acclaimed movies. Beyond that explanation, we find it more than a bit strange the way this story has played out in the general media - much of the information is inaccurate or simply presenting a particular spin of the events, including statements made at the White House press conference. For a more detailed look at the back story on this movie, check out: democracynow.org/2014/12/22/the_interview_pokes_fun_at_north. Lastly, though the Hollywood crowd is portraying the film as a slapstick comedy in the tradition of Charlie Chaplains film The Great Dictator, the fact is that The Interview depicts, in gory and graphic detail, the assassination of an actual, living world leader. Funny stuff to contemplate, especially on Christmas Day. Hopefully this movie will be forgotten quickly.
