No More Wasting Time Several years ago I attended a seminar where the subject of time was addressed. We talked about how much time affects our lives - and how our attitude toward time can make a difference in how we live. The instructor suggested, “Make time your friend.” It was a strange concept to me. Time was too abstract to consider it something I could make ‘friends’ with. And yet as she spoke, I began to see that I had already established a relationship with time. Usually, I was frustrated with time. It was always running out on me, and there was never enough of it. Some days I actually hated time. So I decided to accept her challenge. I determined to love time, never to ‘waste’ it; to try my best to spend it well, and I even spoke to time, inviting it to be my friend, and telling it how much I appreciated the chance to use it for good purposes. Things began to change! It might sound crazy, but I talk to time a lot now. Often when I need a time miracle (when I’m behind on a project, or freeway traffic is stopped and I’m on my way to an important appointment) I ask time to help me out, and something happens that all of a sudden creates unexpected extra time, and things work out. I love Og Mandino’s thought: “I will waste not a moment mourning yesterday’s misfortunes, yesterday’s defeats, yesterday’s aches of the heart, for why should I throw good after bad? I will live this day as if it is my last.” I’ve decided that time is a gift - and I’m determined to receive!
