No Substitute Back in the late 1970’s I had a very short career with a life insurance company that had a slogan, “There is no substitute for life insurance”. Life insurance is a commodity a person buys that really does him no good at all. It is purchased for the sole purpose of giving financial comfort and care to those who are left behind upon the death of the insured person. Life insurance has no benefit at all while the insured person is still living. But, once that person dies their beneficiary will receive the face value of the policy. Life insurance can be purchased in many different forms to meet the needs of the family. Although the slogan of the life insurance company may be trying to say something to you to convince you to purchase a policy from them, that is not 100% true. There are some substitutes for life insurance such as a large savings, a strong portfolio of stocks, large real estate holdings or other investments that can insure the financial welfare of those left behind. Life insurance is not the “one size fits all” remedy to the needs of families. However, when it comes to another matter of life I can confidently say, without hesitation that, “there is no substitute for life assurance”. Insurance vs. Assurance is the real issue when it comes to life and death. You can purchase millions of dollars worth of “insurance” and still die without “assurance”. Assurance cannot be purchased with dollars. It cannot be earned with good works or charitable deeds. Assurance only comes through one source. You can purchase “insurance” from hundreds of companies in the world, but “assurance” comes from only one source. In John 14 Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh to the Father but by me”. He also said in Luke 10, “…..but I am come that you might have life and that you might have it more abundantly”. So, if want to leave this world with “life assurance” you must receive it from the one and only agent who provides it, Jesus Christ. There is no substitute for “Life Assurance”.
