No Unnecessary Discrimination to Protect Domestic Law October, - TopicsExpress

No Unnecessary Discrimination to Protect Domestic Law October, 2014. Our America Initiative opposes Amendment 1, Alabama Foreign Laws in Court, which would forbid state recognition of laws violating its policies, including all foreign law. While sounding supportive of decentralized government and thus for individual liberty on its face, opponents are concerned passage of this amendment would discriminate against various minority groups, thus violating their right to equal protection under the law. Proponents claim the amendment is needed to ensure Islamic Sharia law does not supplant U.S. law, but foreign law already cannot trump domestic law under the Constitution, and a law similar to Amendment One passed in Oklahoma was ruled unconstitutional because it singled out one faith for discrimination. With your donation now and the input of Our America Initiatives Advisory Council on Civil Liberties, we hope to expand civil libertarian advocacy through more of our fifty state affiliates.
