No break in the intense heat...Heat Advisories are possible over - TopicsExpress

No break in the intense heat...Heat Advisories are possible over the next 7 days. ...AREA OF CONCERN...All of South Central Texas. Highest heat index readings will be primarily along and east of Highway 281. ...IMPACTS...High Heat Index values from 103 to 107 degrees during the mid to late afternoon hours. Increased occurrences of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. ...TIMING...This weekend through all of next week. ...DISCUSSION...According to our climate records...stations across South Central Texas have the warmest average temperatures in the first two weeks of August. This is coming true this year as we are stuck in a High Pressure weather pattern that looks to give us triple digit temperatures for much of the area into next week. Over the next 7 days...we can expect these hot temperatures to continue with no significant relief in sight. While heat in August is no stranger to South Central Texas, when you start to get heat index readings above 105 degrees you increase the likelihood of heat illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke. We have been able to barely avoid the heat advisories so far this week as the overnight temperatures have been cooling off into the 70s most areas. (Heat advisories are typically issued when heat indices are above 105 and overnight low temperatures are in the 80s). But as the afternoon temperatures continue to get hotter...we may elect to issue heat advisories for all or portions of the area. This will depend on the temperatures and humidities forecast for that day. Looking at the past few days and the forecast temperatures later next week...the areas that will see the highest heat index values are the areas along and east of Highway 281. So monitor our website and forecasts. Even if heat advisories are not issued it is still going to be plenty hot outside and the usual summertime heat precautions need to be taken.
