No doubt, every Bible reader desires to have faith like ‘the Scriptures says.’ What wonderful results there would be if we “only believed.” Yet, many will think to themselves, “Only? If ‘only’ I could!” But Jesus was not addressing an elite, spiritually super-rich group of people when He said, “Only believe.” It seems the ‘only believe’ kind of faith is something beyond our reach. The impossible price tag attached to God’s power and blessing is only there because we ourselves put it there. Instead of Christ’s ‘only,’ we substitute with a badge of outstanding and advanced spirituality. Why elevate His goodness out of our reach? Why strive to get God to do things? The blessings of God are gifts, and gifts deny us any opportunity of boasting of what we have done. Could that be why we foster popular myths and say, “If you want revival, if you want miracles, if you want God’s best, then there is a price to be paid,” as if revival, miracles, or God’s best were the rewards for a holier- than-thou lifestyle. Where in the Bible is such doctrine taught? Works? Calvary’s work is more than sufficient. Take it. God bless you.
