No fewer than 240 aspirants have picked the nomination forms to contest for various offices under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Daily Trust learnt. No less than three aspirants are crammed on securing the party’s ticket for each of the elective offices except the governorship position where only Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has so far expressed interest to re-contest. It would be recalled that Ahmed was recently endorsed by Senator Bukola Saraki for second term thereby clearing the coast for his re-election. The Kwara Central Senatorial district as well as Kwara North appear no go areas as no aspirant has so far expressed intent in the seats currently occupied by Senators Bukola Saraki and Mohammed Shaaba. It was however learnt yesterday that some National Assembly members in the House of Representatives may lose their positions owing to a new political arrangement which would see them being replaced with another set. Spokesman of APC in the state, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari confirmed the number to our correspondent, saying, “The high number of aspirants jostling for few political offices under our party is established evidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has created political environment that encourages participatory democracy”. He assured that the party would be fair and provide a level-playing field for all aspirants. “Meanwhile, we advise all aspirants to intimate APC members and the people of Kwara State with their electoral manifestoes for public review and endorsement because the people would ultimately decide aspirants’ fate”, he said.
