No fewer than two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers have lost their lives in a face-off between a gang of hoodlums and the men of Edo state Police command along the Benin-Lagos road in Benin. Punch reports that the Edo State Police Command made it known in a statement made by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Noble Uwoh, that a shoot-out occurred at about 5.44am on Friday after hoodlums emerged from hideouts to unleash terror on road users along Benin-Lagos road. The Command’s PRO said that the police had been on the lookout for such occurrence due to many bush paths along the expressway, hence, the command’s readiness for what happened yesterday. DSP Nwoh said that the “desperate dare-devil” armed robbers and kidnappers numbering over 10 took the advantage of a heavy rainfall on August 5, 2014 to rob commuters some metres away from Ogbemudia farm along Benin-Lagos road, where some victims were hurriedly kidnapped into a nearby forest. Two AK47 riffles, hundred and twenty four rounds of live ammunition of AK47, marine rope, face cap, face mask and SIM cards and four mobile phones were recovered from the hideout of the kidnappers and armed robbers. He however sadly explained that the injured suspects died while being rushed to the hospital for treatment, urging the people of the state to help the command with any useful information. - See more at: naijaloaded.ng/2014/08/16/two-armed-robbers-kidnappers-killed-police-shootout/#sthash.qY5k26Cj.dpuf
