No justifying endless globe-trotting Fri 28 Jun Dear Editor, For the spin doctors at PM’s Office to try and justify the endless globe-trotting adventures of PM Henry ‘Elvis’ Puna and his cabinet buddies by highlighting that the costs for the travel is not at taxpayer’s expense is totally absurd. For example, what tangible benefits does our country gain for the Prime Minister to leave the country for a week so that he could attend some media stunt organised in France? The short answer is nothing. Would it not be better for the PM to remain in the country and show leadership by governing for once? Surely that is not too big an ask by the voters of this country? Confronted by some serious socio-economic challenges, now is not the time for the political leaders of the country to gallivant around the globe. The public of this country have simply had a gutsful of this government. Of all the political leaders that this country has had since attaining self-government in 1965, Henry ’Elvis’ Puna would win top prize as the biggest traveller and airpoints gobbler. 2nd to 6th prizes would undoubtably go to his cohorts in cabinet. Much like what has just happened in Australia, the CIP caucus must make some hard decisions very soon if it wants to maintain their hold on political power at next year’s general elections.
