No one can make himself pure by obeying laws. Jesus Christ does - TopicsExpress

No one can make himself pure by obeying laws. Jesus Christ does not give us rules and regulations-- He gives us His teachings which are truths that can only be interpreted by His nature which He places within us. The great wonder of Jesus Christs salvation is that He changes our heredity. He does not change human nature-- He changes its source, and thereby its motives as well. -- Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest. This was my devotional for todays date, July 24th. Here is my translation of what that means: Just because you may be a model citizen and you follow all the rules doesnt make you a better or a holy person. When it says He gives us His teachings which are truths that can only be interpreted by His nature which He places within us -- that nature means love. Somehow, Christianity became synonymous with bigotry and closed-mindedness because of how lazy Christians have become on seeking the knowledge that Christ originally taught. God doesnt look at how many times you read the Bible a day, or how often you pray or how many community service hours you have under your belt. He pays attention to your motives. Your heart. And if you dont believe theres a God and youre content with believing that, then by all means, however you see to do it, live your life to your fullest capacity! The great wonder of Jesus Christs salvation is that He changes our heredity. He does not change human nature. This means someone long ago and now in present time understood/understands that humanity can falter and disappoint us because were imperfect creatures. He never aimed to change that. When it says He changes our heredity it means He adopts us into His philosophy and way of life. And what is that? LOVE. THATS. IT. SIMPLE. To anyone, Christian or not, thats been burned by religion or hate crimes or Christians-- the ones that love to tell you everything youre doing wrong and refuse to be compassionate with you-- let me take responsibility for all those assholes and say that as a Christian myself, Im sorry, because I love you. I accept you. And you dont have to agree with my spiritual beliefs in order for me to do so. If I have it all wrong, then let me be wrong and let the God that Ive chosen on my own to have a relationship with tell me so. I dont need to hear it from anyone on this earth. But with the blessings Ive received in my life and the happiness Ive experienced, its hard to say what Im speaking isnt the truth. May we all get past our own egos and learn to accept each other without condition. Amen. (and for those who dont know, amen means let it be so. Education. Its an awesome thing. Lets all remember how to utilize that.)
