No one nominated me, but I feel like doing this anyhow! These are my top 5 Biggest influences when it comes to DJs and Electronic music. 1. The Chemical Brothers. What can I say that hasnt already been said about these legends? First time I heard Block Rockin Beats in 97, I was in love. It would still be three years until I got my first pair of decks, but at this point I fell in love with electronic music and started feverishly importing Chem Bros, Fatboy Slim, Underworld , The Prodigy, Orbital etc CDs from overseas(because most US stores didnt carry the music). I love almost all of there music output, and every song they put out is different. Seeing them live in 02 in SF at Once In A Blue Moon sealed the deal for me. I think I may have actually cried tears of happiness during that performance, I still to this day have not been so blown away by a performance! I saw them again in 05 and 07. 2. Dina Dragnfly Lammon. When I first started going to raves back in 00, I quickly realized who the head badass was of Sacramento. I cant count how many times I just stood next to her or in front of the decks just watching her work her magic. And while a lot of the DJs at the time were playing the same shit at every show, she would always switch her set up, and her track selection was always fire. Not to mention her mixing tricks... Im not going to lie, everything I learned about chopping up tracks, teasing the next track in and crossfader tricks I learned from watching her. 3. Nick Fabian. Not only is this guy one of my best friends, but we also have played together countless, and I mean COUNTLESS times. His style has always influenced me, and vice versa. He always slays it behind the decks, and I made myself his self-appointed hype man at some point down the line(not like he needs one though), lmfao.... Im very picky about who I tag with, but Im never worried with him, because I know he can keep up with my eclectic style, and me with his as well. 4. Green Forest Green. Hands down one of the best stage presences in California, exuding love, one of the sweetest souls I know, very insightful and full of positivity. Ill never forget the first time I met her at some rave in Sac in 02, and Dina introduced us, I must have been 18. She gently cupped my face, holding it so gently and goes awwwww! like Im a little puppy, and kissed me on the cheek! I was smitten, and Im sure I was blushing. :P Thats not to mention her consistently amazing track selection! Rock on Forest, we are all going to miss you when you move! 5. Denise. Ive always looked up to her track selection, from back in her Hard Techno/NRG days, to the evolution into House. and when she would play with the Skills guys or the F8 guys (who are all also really talented), I would always get mad if they would put her on early, cause I always thought she was the best! :P Really easy to talk to and down to earth, and a all-around Boss, literally, founding and running Mizumo Music and all. Her track selection is always one of a kind, and her mixing skills are technical and smooth. Thank you all so so so very much for being the amazing souls you are, and for inadvertently aiding in molding me into the musician I am now! Cheers to many more years AND beats!
