No one tells photographers to forget about pursuing a career in photography, people usually say oh, you can always work for a newspaper if you cant make it on your own. Writers dont usually hear that theyll most certainly STARVE to death if they choose to major in communications or journalism so that they can learn more about their craft and make connections to help establish themselves in the writing business. So WHY do Fine Artists ALWAYS hear and therefore convince themselves that there is zero money to be made in selling their ART?? Did you know that in 2012, the median annual wage for fine artists, including painters, sculptors, and illustrators was $44,850?* Thats more than public school teachers make in most states before tenure!! Did you know further that in that same year, photographers median annual wage was only $28,490??* Let me spell it out for you: thats $16,360 LESS than our painter/sculptor/illustrator friends!!! It just BURNS me up when I hear people spew negative BS about how Artists will never be able to make a living at their craft. I say BULLFRITTERS!!! LEARN how to market and promote yourselves, peeps. That is the secret sauce, I promise you. *Statistics courtesy of US Dept of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics
