No one will ever appreciate what his parents did for him until he himself becomes a parent, and then finds himself doing exactly what his own parents did, for his own child. It is at that stage that everything will fit into place, and he will realize the immense sacrifice, love, patience, and tenderness that his parents showed him. Even the harshness and strictness shown will be demonstrated and understood as care and concern. If its is not too late, it is the perfect opportunity to make amends for any past harshness, and be the best son (or daughter) to your parents. And if one or both have moved on from this world, still, continue doing good deeds in their name and on their behalf. You can never truly repay what your parents have done for you, but realize that raising your own kids properly is in fact a demonstration of your own parents dedication as well, for a person will instinctively imitate his parents techniques and methods in his own child. So the better parent you are, the better you show how great your own parents were as well! O Allah, protect our kids and bless our parents! Aameen!
