No, that can’t be the Easter Bunny – its tail is too long. It is Emma, a baby joey kangaroo, taking some of her first steps outside her surrogate pouch at Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo. You can tell that she is learning how to balance herself and is a little wobbly. Unfortunately, they don’t make training wheels for joeys. Emma is taking her first “hop” just in time for Easter. Emma is a 7 ½ month old Red Kangaroo joey that is being hand raised at Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo so that she will be able to interact with visitors and kids in the Outback Walkabout experience where guests can actually pet the kangaroos. Holly, her surrogate mother outside the pouch, feeds a bottle to Emma about every 4 hours (around the clock). Holly will spend about five to six months as Emma’s surrogate mother before Emma is returned back to her real mother in the Outback at the Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo. Kids really enjoy the ability to have the close interaction with Kangaroos and other animals. Emma, the staff, and management at Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo would like to wish you and your family a great weekend and a very Happy Easter.
