No way!! Im not surprised to hear these words coming from Obama, and its not hard to see where this is leading. Sorry Obama, but I prefer the Brave [Old] World as opposed to the New, if it means I have more choice in the matter--especially if it means I have greater control over the type and quality of education my children receive. In order for a child to *thrive*, it needs the love that only a mother can give. Often, a farmer will separate a kid (goat) from the mother, so that it will bond with him instead. A human kid, however, should be bonded with his or her own mother, and not Big Brother. Fathers must step up to the challenge, if this is to happen, though it remains a team effort between the two parents along with community support. There is a divine design in the role a father plays as the male figure in a childs life, and also for the mother as the female figure. Seeing the two contrasting forces of nature cooperating in unity together, does more for a childs overall development in to a healthy, and educated, member of society, than any State-run social program ever could. Particularly, since a father and mother are the most qualified in being able to relate with an individual who contains their very own genetic makeup. Obviously, the current economic situation makes it hard for many families to earn enough through the father’s wages alone, making it difficult for the mother to stay at home and teach the children. Indeed, childcare support is a necessary thing for any family, but it should come from the community and not the state. In addition, we should arrange our affairs so that we, the parents, can be involved in the childs education as much as possible. People should be more concerned in the affairs of the home and surrounding community, than world affairs. I believe it would in fact do more for progress, than people sitting in front of the tube fretting over the problems of too many things which are not in their immediate control (I believe this due to what Ive learned from my own frenzied mind). We have become very confused in our priorities and in regards to the principle role that the family plays in a properly functioning societal order. I dont have all the answers for how to make it possible for more families to have the choice of homeschooling their children, but I know we have more than enough minds to address these issues, and come up with solutions which strengthen the family unit rather than dissolve it; and I know those minds are in our very own neighboring communities. Try looking to the families that are making it work (even large families), and see what we can learn from them. If you want to be a teacher, consider becoming a parent. If you dont know how you can do it on your own, dont worry. Effective homeschooling requires family co-ops and neighborhood mentors. There are, also, various schooling methods which greatly reduce the amount of perceived expenditures required to educate your child. It really doesnt cost much to educate a child if they have the right incentive, direction, the internet, a public library, etc. Get them excited about something, and then direct them to the proper resources. Get them outside, too. Knowledge is most greatly retained when a child can see the connection that exists all throughout this living system to which they belong. Learning is all about connections and relationships; seeing the bigger picture; how the smaller part reflects the greater; and what that means for each individual soul.
