Noah Review by Justin 2014 (PG-13) I’ll be completely honest in that I was not entirely looking forward to this movie prior to it coming out. I just was not interested in the story that I have heard a thousand times before. I finally went and saw it with friends and it was actually a lot better than I was expecting. I think the thing that most interested me is that it is hard to call this movie a “religious” movie. Sure it’s a story about Noah and an arc, but there were definitely some liberties taken with the story that made it feel like a different story from the one I have heard before. Some people might not like the new “additions” to the story like the giant rock angel things that help Noah build his arc. In my opinion, this made the movie way more interesting. As I said earlier, this isn’t a brand new story being told. This tale has been heard countless times so the little tweaks to the story made watching this movie more bearable to watch. As the story of Noah goes, he is given the task to build a giant arc to save his family and all the animals from a flood that would wipe out all of the terrible people in the world so God (who is only referred to as “The Creator” in the movie) could start over. The CGI in the movie I thought was really good. Especially when it came to the flooding and battle sequences. This movie was very violent for a PG-13 rating. There is a huge battle near the end that reminded me of something out of Lord of the Rings. All the while the CGI still looked great. The acting is amazing by everyone especially by Russell Crowe as Noah. Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly, Logan Lerman, Anthony Hopkins, and Ray Winstone are also fantastic in this movie as well. One thing I did not like about this movie is that the last half hour or so felt like it dragged on and just felt unnecessary. The movie could’ve ended much earlier than it did in my opinion and it still would’ve been fine. I also think the beginning of the movie is a little too slow for me. It definitely picks up once the arc is starting to be built but before that I did get a little bored with the movie. This is not a bad movie at all. It is a retelling of a story found in the Bible but it is told in a way that has some curveballs from the original story, and if that bothers you, you probably won’t like this movie. I enjoyed this movie way more than I thought I would. The acting, CGI, and overall storytelling made the movie very good even it did start off a little slow and dragged on a little bit toward the end. Score: 8.0/10.0 Review by Justin
