Noah is out on the big screen. It hasnt made it to El Salvador yet - TopicsExpress

Noah is out on the big screen. It hasnt made it to El Salvador yet so this is not a review of it. I like the idea that Hollywood is making biblical movies again. That means something is stirring in the Spirit and touching them. That said, this is Hollywood and sticking to the biblical story wont be what we get. But it will give us some great opportunities so share the true story with the people around us. Bill Maher used the opportunity to accuse God of being a mass murderer who kills babies. I can only imagine what he will feel like when stands before the Father and realizes who He really is. Hopefully he repents before that day. Jesus said our own words would be used for or against us at judgement. But the story of Noah is a story of the mercy of God. It starts with Noahs grandfather, Methuselah, the son of Enoch. Methuselah literally means when he dies it will come. What will come? The flood, and when he died, it came. But the man whose death would signal judgement on the earth, was also the oldest recorded living person in the Bible. Why? Mercy. Noah in addition to becoming a ship builder, was also a preacher. He must have been a frustrated one, because he preached a message of repentance for 70 years without any takers. I get discouraged after one message that no one responds to. 70 years. When he was ready to quit, which must have been often, I can hear God saying, Dont give up Noah. Tell them to repent. And so Noah did. Why? Mercy. Would there have been a flood if there had been repentance? I wouldnt think so because in the Bible repentance always took judgment off the table. God gave plenty of time for people to respond to Noahs message but no one cared to do so. Dont blame God for that. And the rainbow. Gay rights activists have tried to highjack it and make it their symbol, but long before it meant gay friendly, it was given as a promise that God would never bring judgment on the earth in the form of a flood again. So every time we look up and see a rainbow it is the fulfillment of a promise from God that He has faithfully kept. When Jesus read Isaiah 61 and told His listeners that those words had been fulfilled in their hearing, He had purposefully stopped with the verse that said, to proclaim the year of the favor of our God. The next verse says, and the day of the vengeance of the Lord. He didnt read that one because it hadnt yet been fulfilled. It will be. Interesting that His favor is measured in years while His vengeance is only a day. That day will come and it will be worse than the flood. God will do away with sin once and for all. All those who cling to that sin as He destroys it, will be destroyed with it.We have the freedom to make that choice. Now we live in the year of the favor of our God, a year that has lasted over 2,000 years at this point. Enjoy it. Use it to encourage others to embrace the goodness of God and His mercy. And as the movie Noah sparks discussion, maybe we can use that moment so share the mercy of God.
