Nollywood Mispresentation of Nigerian Nurses NOLLYWOOD ARTISTS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC SHOULD NOTE THE FOLLOWING; 1, Professional nurses are been misrepresented by Nigerian artists, 2. What they show as nurse’s activity in their films, videos and stage plays does not represent Nigerian nurses but the activities of quacks in the cottage hospitals they might have had contact with. 3, Nurses have no time to engage in mere gossips but we brainstorm with ourselves and other professionals to proffer solution to patient’s problems. 4. N...urses don’t sleep around with Doctors because we both have different and busy schedule of duties which overwhelms us beyond mere bodily passion, if you don’t believe go to LUTH, UCH, LASUTH, UBTH and others to catch a glimpse of our activities. 5. Professional Nurses don’t sit by the canter or desk, because we are not receptionists, we are ward managers that coordinates all the activities on the ward, esp. concerning the patients, we are patients advocate, the angel on the wards and units. 6. Nursing is profession, we are not errand boys or girls to Drs as you portray us in your nollywood films, rather we are co-managers of patients, in fact no hospital can function optimally without a trained Nurse, we are the heartbeat of patients care, we rub mind with other professionals to give d desired care to patients, We undergo rigorous training, we keep training and retraining ourselves to meet up with modern healthcare delivery, we spent nothing less than 8 years in school though not at a stretch to earn the title of being called a nurse. 7. We renew our practicing license every three years to remain relevant in the system, after undergoing a refresher course to update our knowledge; we have and know most things about our pts, more-over, we took an oath and a pledge before we entered into the profession. NURSES ARE NOT JUST ANYBODY, WE ARE SELECTED FEW THAT ARE CALLED TO SALVAGE HUMANITY FROM DISEASES, AND SICKNESSES. WE ARE DEDICATED TO PROLONGING LIFE AND IF DEATH IS INEVITABLE, NURSES ENSURE A PEACEFUL DEATH. By Olufemi Iseyemi Folakemi Like and share with your friends if you are a concerns nurse.
