Nominations for Springboro Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees are being taken until December 4th. For Immediate Attention: 1. Nominations will be accepted through Wednesday, Dec. 4th. Notification of inductees will take place before Christmas break 4. Hall of Fame Game - Friday, February 7, 2014 vs Xenia. Presentation of new inductees will take place. All current Hall of Fame members are invited to attend, be recognized, and congratulate new inductees. 5. Hall of Fame Dinner at Heatherwood, Saturday, February 8, 2014 The Springboro High School Athletic Hall of Fame was conceived in 1980 to honor a proud athletic tradition, and the hundreds of both males and females who have contributed to it in many ways. A 10-person committee was organized to develop guidelines for eligibility and selection. These guidelines were established at that time. 1. The selection for any given year will be made by a committee chosen that year by the Athletic Director. Composition of the committee must include the athletic director, and some combination of alumni, former athletes, former coaches and administrators, current coaches, and current faculty members. 2. To be eligible, an athlete must: a. have been graduated for at least five years b. have excelled at the high school level c. received recognition on the state level; participation in a state final event, or selection to an All-Ohio team. d. contributed substantially during his/her career, which would include the establishing of significant school, conference or state records, or a demonstration of unique versatility. * Any of the above requirements can be waived by a unanimous vote of the committee in a given year. All statistics and/or awards must be verifiable. Others who have contributed can be inducted: a. Coaches: based on longevity, impressive records, or singular achievement b. Administrators: based on their commitment to the health of the athletic program, individual contributions, support, involvement with the Athletic Boosters, and a continuing role in guiding athletic 3. Nominations a. Candidates must be nominated annually. No carry over nominations from previous years will take place although a nominee not selected one year may be re-nominated in a successive year. b. All nominations should be in by Thanksgiving break and notification of new inductees should be made by Christmas break 4. Voting process a. The committee will meet annually during the first week of December b. Each nominee will be considered individually and a blind vote will be taken. A 2/3 majority vote is needed to be inducted. 5. Induction a. All nominations should be in by Thanksgiving break and notification of new inductees should be made by Christmas break b. The induction will occur during a home boy’s basketball game in February of each year; the athletic director may choose to change the venue, or to suspend inductions in any given year. 6. Revisions in Criteria: Any of the above criteria can be changed with a 2/3 majority vote of the committee In addition, at the time of the selection process, the committee will consider any new additions to the Springboro High School Super Fan Hall of Fame and must receive a majority vote of the committee. Retiring a jersey Since this committee meets once a year, it will be the group responsible for considering the retirement of an athletic jersey. A jersey may be retired by the following process. · An athlete will only be considered at least 10 years after they graduate · Suggestions for retired jerseys will be made to the athletic director who will take them to the Hall of Fame Committee when they meet in November · There has to be recognition on a NATIONAL level, which involves All-American recognition, active participation in a nationally-recognized event, setting a national record, major success at the college level, or participation at the professional level.
