Non-linear war; what a great term. In case you missed it, the U.S. recently announced an end to the War in Afghanistan, which, at 13 years and counting, has been the longest war in U.S. history. What didnt make the headlines is that the U.S. are leaving up to 18,000 troops in Afghanistan indefinitely to continue training, security details and even active combat and bombing runs. 18,000 soldiers is approximately 8,000 more soldiers than the U.S. initially placed in Afghanistan when it began the war. So how is this ending the war, exactly? What are/were the goals and objectives of this war, and did the NATO forces win or lose? Canada has been involved in this war from the very beginning as well, shouldnt we have at least some of the answers to these questions? Below is a clip from an upcoming documentary by Adam Curtis, who made the excellent documentary series The Century of the Self, which looks like it addresses the issues behind why we, as a society, have seemingly no idea of the official narrative of our governments, and why these governments dont have to adhere to these policies even when we are aware of them. In an age where we have nearly unlimited access to information, it is ironic that there is so little truth.
