Nordic race The Nordic race was one of the putative sub-races into which some late 19th to mid 20th century anthropologists divided the Caucasian race. People of the Nordic type were described as having light-coloured hair, light-coloured eyes, fair skin, long and narrow skulls and tall stature and were considered to predominate in the countries of Northern Europe. The psychological traits of Nordics were described as truthful, equitable, competitive, naive, reserved and individualistic. Other supposed sub-races were the Alpine race, Dinaric race, East Baltic race and the Mediterranean race. Claims Throughout History The term Nordic did not come into wide use until the 1980s. In earlier decades, the entities now described as Nordics were often called Space Brothers. Some of the best known individuals who claimed to interact with Space Brothers include George Adamski, Howard Menger, and Billy Meier (who said his contacts came from the Pleiades system). However, these mens stories are widely considered absurd hoaxes, in the words of Jerome Clark. Political scholar and UFOlogist Michael Salla suggested the possibility that United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower met with Nordic aliens at Edwards Air Force Base in February 1954 in an attempt to formulate an agreement over technology exchange and the elimination of the American nuclear arsenal. Such claims are flatly dismissed by archivists at the Eisenhower Presidential Center, who have fielded many questions on the subject over the years. Nordicism was an ideology of racial separatism which viewed Nordics as an endangered racial group, as identified by Madison Grant in The Passing of the Great Race. “Nordic aliens are said by self-described contactees and some UFOlogists to be a group of humanoid extraterrestrials who resemble European racial images, or more specifically Nordic-Scandinavians. Nordics are typically described as six to seven feet tall with long blond hair and blue eyes, and are commonly reported as being male.Their skin is said to range from fair colored to tanned, they are reported to be in excellent physical shape, and they are sometimes described as wearing skintight clothing.During the 1950s, many contactees, especially those in Europe, reported beings fitting this description. Such claims became relatively less common in subsequent decades, as the grey alien supplanted the Nordic in most accounts of extraterrestrial encounters, but Nordic aliens are still occasionally reported. Some sources, such as UFO Contact Center International, refer to Nordic-type aliens as Pleiadians, referring to the Pleiades star cluster.” This ideology was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in some Central and Northern European countries as well as in North America. Nazism claimed that the Nordic race within the greater Caucasian race, constituted a master race. The racial ideology of Nordicism should not be confused with the political movement of Scandinavianism.
