Norma Miedema One year ago today (April 30th 2013) Norma Miedema & I first made cyberspace contact. All I knew of her was that she operated and owned an animal sanctuary in Friesland, in the Netherlands – and that she had been unjustly treated after the 2006 Marrum Horse Rescue – and had never been officially acknowledged for her personal courage and contributions to the successful outcome. That really pissed me off! I guess my childhood TV heroes (Robin Hood, the Lone Ranger, and William Tell etc.) have programmed my sense of fair play and justice. But what could I possibly do to support Norma and her work; after all I live in New Zealand, and of limited means; but I am a musician, a writer, a computer engineer and have a creative fertile imagination – and I have used those skills in some small ways to help promote Norma’s Universum and Norma on Facebook, YouTube and in cyberspace. During this time Norma and I have become dear friends – and I have grown to admire her deep seated spirituality as well as her tremendous physical and emotional strengths – knowing that like all human beings, she is also very vulnerable and subject to criticism and put-downs by some closed-minded and self-opinionated people ….. a price that all of us pay for appearing to become “tall poppies”. I feel like Norma & I have known each other for years – and maybe we are old souls from past lives when we knew each other in other universes or time-lines. All I wish to say this time around, is that Norma helps make this shoddy planet a much better place for animals, humans and indeed, for all sentient beings to live, love and glimpse a better world for the future.
