Normally I would be home teaching maths and physics to some matriculants which is quite an awesome way to spend my June vacation and thats why I choose to do it but this year is kinda different. I got the privilege to be part of the Targeting Talent Programme hosted by the Mathematical Science department at Wits and some other partners. For the next two weeks I will helping my colleagues at Wits to teach programming and some basic scientific computing to high school kids from Grade 10 to Grade 12( this will include making some games, simulations and programming solutions to some basic scientific problems posed) in order to give a feel of what university brings. I will be handling Grade 12s which will be quite challenging and will probably keep me very busy but Im excited for the challenge.
