Normally, we are less highbrow than this, but less drunk. facebook/IWantMyRockstarsDead I eventually want to propagate a unified theory of alternative aesthetics, philosophically proving Rock and Roll is the only music worth listening to and further to this any listening or encouraging of any manufactured commercialist pop is in fact damaging to society and humanity and should be actively stopped by any means necessary....but thats for the meeting at the docks, maybe not tonight... MY POINT is that, up until recently, if you view popular music in a historical, linear fashion, we came up with our own new shit, took the best things from the previous discarded fashion and moved on combining new ideas with the best parts for previous genres. The disturbing thing about music from the last 10-15 years is that has, almost without exception, been deviod of new inspiration - all the dance stuff sound like stuff we could do 20 years ago, including the boring bass wobble which we just didnt do out of taste, I enjoyed the dance acts of the 90s, and the hip hop acts of the 80s but they havent progressed beyond their heights, so what for rock? Well there is scope, anyone who says there is not is, frankly, a cunt. But its the same old formula - old ideas with a little bit of new injected - it doesnt even have to be completely original..bined, composite ideas, to make something new - WOW. To be honest from my point of view the best acts from the 21st century have been retro rock acts, which have been ignored by mainstream media and so we find ourselves with the worst pop music and worst media we have had in a lifetime, Ferne Cotton got married and apparantly we should all care about that...pop has always been shite, but the migration of indie music from Radio One to 6music means young people have no alternative, and the failure or MTV to promote anything but teenage pregnancy and tanning booths to their sole youth audience is a damning indictment of them and the culture they promote. The only hope kids have is the internet, and the hope that somehow they will kickstart their own intrigue into different ideas, because the current infastructure is not enough, we are not doing enough and we have let them, and ourselves down.
