North Chicago Reminders : 1. Consider enrolling in the Service Line Warranty Program. Call 855-535-7141 for more information. This program offered by Service Line Warranties of America is sponsored by the City of North Chicago. This could assist in reducing expensive costs to maintenance of your water and/or sewer service. 2. Did you know that the property owner is responsible to maintain the entire water and sewer service? The service is located from the building to the main. The main may exist within the roadway or the other side of the road meaning the service which the property owner is responsible for could exist under the roadway. 3. Help beautify our City by cleaning the litter from the front and rear of your property. Assist by trimming weeds and other landscaping behind your property adjacent to the alley. Ensure you and your neighbor are cutting their grass and keeping it from growing to 5 inches in height. If grass is found to grow 5 inches or higher, the City will be cutting the grass to prevent the nuisance. Call the Building Department at 847-596-8650 if you have a concern about a neighboring property. 4. Did you know that your responsibility of maintenance to your driveway exists all the way to the curb? The City only assists with repair of a driveway apron if they completely rebuild the roadway in front. In all other cases, the property owner should repair their driveway and its apron when needed. 5. Want to know how to get a sidewalk repaired? Call the Public Works Department at 847-596-8870 to request the public sidewalk in front of your property to be repaired. Sidewalks are completed on a first come first serve basis. Also, please note that the sidewalk that is located from your building to the curb is called a Carriage Walk. This is a private walkway and is not maintained by the City. 6. What should you do about a dying or dead tree? If it is in the parkway (the area between the sidewalk and curb), call the Public Works Department at 847-596-8870 and it will get added to the list. If the tree lies on private property, you can leave the limbs on the curb during your regular trash day by following the proper guidelines : limbs should be no bigger than 2 inches in diameter, no longer than 4 feet in length, and the limbs should be tied together with twine or biodegradable rope in bunches no more than 50 pounds in size. Contact one of our local businesses, like The Mulch Center, for options to rid yourself of the larger pieces of wood. 7. Do you get a lot of sewer backups? Consider enrolling in the City’s Backup Prevention Program where you can receive up to $750 in assistance. Contact Economic Development at 847-596-8670. 8. Who is our trash hauler? Their name is now Advanced Disposal. You may reach them at 847-623-3870. 9. Check out the City of North Chicago website for information on what is happening throughout the City. Sign up for e-updates to your e-mail address and place your phone number on the ‘reverse 911’ call list for important information. Check out the City’s facebook page and ‘like’ it for additional information concerning the City and all that is happening.
