North East Fife MSP Roderick Campbell (SNP) has commented on the result of the independence referendum and the resignation of First Minister Alex Salmond. On the referendum, Mr Campbell said: “I am, naturally, disappointed with the final result. The Yes campaign was an excellent, grassroots campaign that included people from all parties and none. I am proud to have worked with such energetic, enthusiastic and dedicated people for the last couple of years. We have come a long way since this campaign started and the margin of victory remained small. There is a very clear mandate for change and a significant transfer of power from Westminster to Scotland. The Westminster parties need to be held to account to deliver the new powers that they have promised. We were told that a No vote doesn’t mean no change and that must be the case.” Speaking about the forthcoming resignation of First Minister, Alex Salmond, he continued: “For the past seven years the First Minister has done an excellent job of leading the Scottish Government, from securing a minority SNP Government in 2007 to a historic majority Government in 2011. The First Minister has been an outstanding leader of the Scottish National Party and he has left a very visible impact on Scottish politics. I am sure that whoever succeeds him as the party’s leader, and as First Minister, will do an excellent job and will continue the SNPs strong record in Government.”
