North Pole City: There is a magical place in Oklahoma City - a place where the Christmas spirit dwells unencumbered by the humbug burdens of everyday stresses. This magical place has all of the trimmings of Santas workshop without all of those pesky elves under foot. North Pole City is a place of all things Christmas. I had the privilege of spending some time photographing NPC a couple of years ago and tried to capture the essence of the place. Each corridor opens into a breath-taking display of the nativity scene, glittering ornaments, elves in evergreen, charming miniature townships, life-sized Santas, gingerbread people, dazzling lights, giant nutcrackers, candy-canes, beautiful Christmas trees and polar bears on skis. I was giddier than a kid in a candy store and still treasure the yuletide images captured that day. I felt as if Santa might appear from some enchanted recess at any time. In fact, he does appear several times during the holiday season, to the delight of everyone that has the opportunity to sit on his knee. I would love to capture this seasons revamped holiday wonderland but alas, new policies prevent photography within the enchanted confines. This will not prevent me from visiting NPC, but will put a damper on sharing the photographic magic with you. If youre in the OKC area between the months of September and January, stop by for an infusion of Christmas cheer (4201 South I-44 service road, Oklahoma City, OK). If you’re not from the OKC area, stop on over at their Facebook site and tell them Shutter Claus sent you. Opening day is September 6th. https://facebook/NorthPoleCity
