Norway researchers taught 16 horses cues to signal when they wanted specific things. By touching their noses to specific symbols, they can choose to stand outside, to go into a room with heat lamp, or to go into a room without heat lamp. From this study, rain seems to have the most impact on their preferences. Most horses chose heat lamp + room on cold, wet days, but wanted to be outside without a blanket on cold dry days. Thirteen of the horses also learned blanket on, blanket off, and blanket unchanged signals. Most wanted the blanket off as soon as the sun came up, but none wanted the blanket removed if there was both rain and wind. Interesting! nrk.no/nordland/spor-hestene-om-de-fryser-1.11514727
