Not Everyone Is Beautiful - I see the point the author is raising, - TopicsExpress

Not Everyone Is Beautiful - I see the point the author is raising, but I think its overly specific. I have some criticisms here. I think I know what the author is saying, but I think its also too highly confined. Its certainly true that the media over-hypes physical beauty, but I think the author here has thus fallen for the same trap/trope - that beauty is only physical. In a weird, ironic way, hes actually perpetuating the stereotype. By fixating on that aspect of beauty, hes devaluing the very aspects that he decries as missing. While certainly its the case that some individuals are more statistically attractive than others, how much of that is what the media tells us is so? And how much is a cultural bias towards purely physical as opposed to other kinds of beauty? I believe that the everyone is beautiful movement is not actually making the seemingly over-strong claim that everyone is statistically equally attractive to all objective observers, but rather that the media is crazy and to stop listening to how others define beauty. Furthermore, its a valid action to take in that direction, to co-opt (or really, unchain) the word beauty, and deliberately represent, within the chaotic ocean of media itself, many different body types as beautiful and let people decide for themselves. Though I do agree that everyone is in the greater sense valuable and worth loving, I think wed all be better off if people of all physical classifications were allowed to be beautiful in the media, and then every individual can themselves decide whether any one individual is beautiful to them. How much better would that be? Talk about actual freedom to choose. #UnchainTheBrain
